Our ICREA research professors are working in different Universities and Research Centres. On account of this, ownership of any intellectual or industrial property is always shared between ICREA and the host institution. To make negotiations as fast and conclusive as possible, host institutions are entitled to explore and engage in technology transfer activities on behalf of ICREA when opportunities arise. ICREA supports the exploitation efforts and offers advice throughout the process.

    The present invention provides magnetic and electrocatalytic, pseudo-ordered mesoporous alloy films as well as their use. Two different types of mesoporous alloy films have been provided by the invention: (1) non-noble metal + noble metal; (2) non-noble metal A + non-noble metal B. In both cases, the obtained films exhibit electrocatalytic properties. Furthermore, the introduction of ferromagnetic 3d transition metals into the porous films confer them a magnetic functionality. The invention also provides a new method to synthesize said mesoporous metallic alloys with pseudo-ordered porosity, whose method is carried out in one-single step in the presence of an aqueous electrolyte that contains a triblock copolymer. The method is industrially scalable.

    Flexoelectric Device

    All flexoelectric devices have two electrodes and a dielectric material sandwitched between them. When subject to an inhomogeneous deformation (strain gradient), such as bending, the dielectric material will polarize and generate a charge density at its surface. The role of the electrodes is to collect this charge. The figure of merit of such a device is the effective flexoelectric coefficient, µeff, which is the coefficient between the generated charge and the applied strain gradient. The flexoelectric coefficient of most materials is in the nC/m range, and only occasionally can reach up to µC/m. The present invention proposes that substituting the dielectric (electrically insulating) layer for a semiconductor (electrically conducting) layer results in a much larger flexoelectric coefficient that can reach up to mC/m.
