Short biography
Born in 1970, Javier Polavieja grew up in Spain and studied in Madrid, Connecticut and Oxford. He holds a doctorate from Nuffield College, Oxford, and an honorary doctorate from the Juan March Institute of Study and Research, Madrid. Currently he is ICREA Researcher and Coordinator of the INSIDE project at the Institute for Economic Analysis, IAE-CSIC, Barcelona, as well as Research Associate (honorary) at the Institute for Economic and Social Research, ISER, University of Essex. Previously he was ICREA Researcher at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Visiting Professor at the Juan March Institute and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. He has published in the European Sociological Review, Social Indicators Research, Socio-Economic Research, Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas, Revista Española de Ciencia Política and Revista Internacional de Sociología, and is the author of a book published in English and Spanish. His fields of interest are labour markets, stratification and political sociology. His current work focuses on the determinants of sex-differences in job allocation and earnings, the comparative analysis of temporary employment, the labour market performance of immigrants and the economic determinants of attitudes towards immigration.
