Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), also called BB2, CD54 or P3.58, is a glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamiliy. ICAM-1 has a large extracellular segment comprising five Ig-like domains, named D1 to D5, which is glycosylated at various sites. This is followed by a single transmembrane region and a short cytoplasmic tail that interacts with other proteins and relays signals intracellularly. The ICAM-1 protein is mostly expressed on the plasma membrane of vascular and immune cells. The present invention relates to antibodies binding specifically to the ICAM-1 protein, to uses thereof, and to methods and kits using said antibodies.
