The advantage of nanoscale thin films is 15 the raise of outstanding phenomena, which are present only in nanoscale materials and could potentially enhance the performance of the device. Additionally, the use of thin films allows the production of ultra-compact devices and the use of considerably low contents of critical raw materials. When considering the advantages of using thin films, scalable fabrication techniques are crucial. The present invention relates to electrochemical devices, in particular to a process for manufacturing a functional electrochemical device based on a thin film freestanding membrane.
