Short biography
Margarita Díaz-Andreu is a Spanish archaeologist and ICREA Research Professor of Archaeology at the Universitat de Barcelona (2012-), following academic positions in Spain (CSIC, UCM, 1993-95), and the UK (Durham University, 1996–2011). She is widely recognized for her extensive publication record and for leading major competitive research projects, including the ERC Artsoundscapes project (2018–2025) and the ongoing ArqueólogAs/Herstory projects. In 2021 she received the Menéndez Pidal National Award for the Humanities, and in 2022 the Neubergh Award (University of Gothenburg). She is among the most-cited researchers in Spain. Since joining the University of Barcelona, she has published over 21 books/special issues, as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles/book chapters. Of the 18 PhD students who have completed, 9 have done so at the UB. She has tutored 16 post-docs. She has also played an active role in academic leadership, conference organization, and public outreach.
