ICREA Research Professor Jens Biegert has received the C.E.K. Mees Medal 2026 from Optica, an organisation founded in 1916 and dedicated to promoting the generation, application and communication of knowledge in optics and photonics worldwide.
The award, established in 1961, recognises the original use of optics in diverse fields for projects that exemplify the idea that ‘optics transcends all borders’.
Jens Biegert has been awarded for developing new ultra-fast light tools that allow us to observe what happens inside matter in extremely short time intervals. His research has contributed to a better understanding of the behaviour of molecules and electrons and has opened up new possibilities in physics, chemistry and materials science.
