Blau de Prussia podcast - "Beyond the labs: the challenge of scaling decarbonization”
TV or Radio (including internet)
It is a time for rethinking: for imagining possible futures, for weighing what must be left behind and what we can still transform. Aboard the Margulis, the beginning of the year also brings profound changes.
After weeks mapping the gas flows of 571-/9A, the ship now faces a new mission: to study an experimental technology capable of capturing and transforming CO₂ directly on the planet’s surface.
In doing so, they could reshape the carbon cycle of the exoplanet to make it more habitable. Turning this excess atmospheric CO₂ into other forms of carbon useful for generating energy, building materials, or even new food sources. A challenge not so different from the one humanity faces in the early 21st century on the Blue Planet. A situation that calls for cooperation, for a consortium between society and knowledge, between science and politics, all with the aim of testing whether it is possible to decarbonize entire processes without giving up the energy or the industries that sustain them. A global challenge in which every piece must commit and contribute its part. But what does it really mean to decarbonize an industry? How far can chemistry go when aligned with technology and engineering? And, above all, what role can CO₂ play in the future we are building?
We will discover it together in… Beyond the Laboratories: The Challenge of Scaling Up Decarbonization. Today we search for Prussian Blue with Professor Emilio Palomares, director of ICIQ, and Dr. Júlia Viladoms, head of the industrial decarbonization unit.
