ICREA Research Professor Thomas Sturm (UAB) will participate in the ecas-Europe 2026 State of the Union Citizens’ Rights Conference, talking about the “Fifth Freedom”, the freedom of knowledge

Prof. Thomas Sturm will be contributing to the second panel on the Fifth Freedom within the European Union. The conference is ECAS’s annual flagship event in its EU Rights focus area. It brings together civil society, decision-makers, and academics to reflect on developments in the European Citizenship domain and discuss ways to improve European Union Rights implementation and innovate EU Citizenship.

The 2026 edition will address two key issues: the growing obstacles to nationality acquisition within EU Member States and the future of the freedom of knowledge within the UE.
