The synthesis of organic molecules encompasses thousands of methodologies to create new bonds, giving rise to a myriad of compounds, both new and well-known, that fnd application across various felds, including pharmaceutical, materials science, or agrochemicals. Indeed, organic synthesis excels during the design of small molecules, but struggles to fnd optimal pathways when dealing with the synthesis of structural materials with elevated degrees of freedom.The present invention relates to the feld of chemical synthesis of compounds, in particular organic macrocycles, and refers to the use of clip-of chemistry as a synthetic strategy to selectively create new molecules and materials, in particular through the programmed disassembly of crystalline reticular structures, in particular covalent organic frameworks.
