Magnetic microrobots for targeted therapies

Designing microrobots for medical use requires finding the right balance between several factors: they must be safe for the body, able to break down naturally, small enough to move through tiny spaces, and responsive to magnetic control. Ideally, these systems should also allow real‑time tracking, move efficiently to their target, and carry therapeutic compounds.Our group together with partners in the ANGIE project develop a microrobotic approach that brings these elements together by using electromagnetic guidance, a catheter‑based release system, and tiny dissolvable capsules that carry the drug. This strategy has shown that precise navigation is possible in models of human blood vessels, and that tracking and steering can also be achieved in large‑animal studies.
