I study the interface of economics and happiness through econometric analysis of data obtained with subjective well-being questions. I have applied this method to understand individuals' preferences over income taking into account the importance of reference income effects and adaptation to changes in income. Other applications include the monetary value providing informal care or of health damage caused by chronic diseases, and the study of poverty and inequality. My studies cover various countries, including The Netherlands, the UK, Germany and Russia. Key words
