Short biography
Inma Cobos completed her medical studies at the School of Medicine of Murcia. She obtained a Master in Neuroscience from the International University of Andalucía and did her thesis research in neuroanatomy and developmental neurobiology at the School of Medicine of Murcia. She was awarded with the 2001 Doctoral Extraordinary Prize for her contributions to the study of the patterning and cell specification in the forebrain. She did her postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, studying the fundamental neurodevelopmental mechanisms that regulate differentiation of neuronal cell types in the cerebral cortex. Research interests
Inma Cobos is studying the development of neural circuits in the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex comprises a complex variety of cell types interconnected with extraordinary specificity to form precisely arranged neural circuits. Her project is aimed to understand how intrinsic genetic programs and intercellular signaling systems interplay to generate neuronal diversity, and how specific subtypes of neurons participate in specialized neural circuits and perform dedicated functions in the cerebral cortex.
