After obtaining his MA in philosophy from the University of Göttingen in 1995, Sven went to St Andrews to do his PhD under the supervision of Crispin Wright. Immediately after award of his PhD from the University of St Andrews in 1999, Sven spent one year as postdoctoral research fellow at the IIF (UNAM) in Mexico. In 2000 he joined the philosophy department at the FU Berlin, where he worked for five years as assistant professor and was awarded his senior doctorate (habilitation) in 2004. From 2005 until 2008 he received a Heisenberg research fellowship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). He joined ICREA in December 2008. Sven is Honorary Research Fellow at Arché (St Andrews) and the Northern Institute of Philosophy (Aberdeen), and a member of LOGOS (Barcelona). From 2010 until 2013 Sven will act as coordinator of the FP7 ITN 'Perspectival Thoughts and Facts' (EC-GA 238128) and from 2010 until 2014 co-coordinate the Ingenio Consolider PERSP (CSD2009-00056).

Research Interests

Sven’s main research interests are in epistemology, metaphysics and the philosophy of mind and language. He is particularly interested in realism, objectivity, the limits of thought and knowledge (if any), truth, understanding, the philosophy of time and tense, the epistemology of logic, vagueness and the paradoxes.
