My Dr. degree was awarded in 1993 by the University of Barcelona from my research at the Earth Sciences Institute Jaume Almera (CSIC). After a postdoc (1993-99) and tenure (2000) at GEOMAR (Kiel, Germany), I joined ICREA in 2005 to work at the Marine Sciences Institute (CSIC). I use geophysical and geological methods to study geological processes at subduction zones, rifted margins and mid-ocean ridges. Since 1992 I have published over 55 SCI articles (www.researcherid.com/rid/B-9165-2009). I have written several book chapters and about 20 non SCI papers. I have delivered more than 30 invited seminars and talks at universities, research centers, and international congresses and workshops. I have been organizer, convener, or program committee member of over 20 international scientific meetings. I have been PI or CO-PI of over a dozen projects that included ship cruises. I am currently the coordinator of the Barcelona Center for Subsurface Imaging (www.barcelona-csi.cmima.csic.es).

My research interest is focused on the study of the structure of the lithosphere to understand geological processes at subduction zones, rifted continental margins and mid-ocean spreading centers. To this end, I primarily work on the analysis, processing, and imaging of seismic data using modern techniques like pre-stack depth migration, and both travel-time and full-waveform inversions. I integrate the seismic images and other geophysical observations with geological data to study the tectonic and magmatic processes that lead to the formation of oceanic lithosphere at spreading centers, and of rifting at continental margins. I also study tectonic processes at convergent plate boundaries. Here, my interest is centered on the relations between long-term tectonics and fluids in the oceanic as well as in the continental plate. I am particularly interested on the processes that govern the generation of earthquakes at subduction zones.
