Pruneri, Valerio

ICREA Research Professor at ICFO (Institut de Ciències Fotòniques). Technology & Engineering

Valerio Pruneri is leading the Optoelectronics group at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Spain. Since 2010 he is a Visiting Scholar at Corning Inc. in USA.

Previously he worked for Avanex, Corning, Pirelli, and the Optoelectronics Research Centre (University of Southampton).

He has given more than 50 invited talks at major international conferences and he is author or co-author of more than 25 patents/patent applications.

He has taken part to more than 30 technical or steering committees of international conferences. He is the chair of the European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO) in 2012 and of the "Micro-nano-photonics" sub-committee of the European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO Europe) in 2011 and 2013.

He serves on the advisory board of ACREO AB Fiber Optic Centre and VLC Photonics.

He was awarded three industrial prizes: Philip Morriz Prize for scientific and technological research, Pirelli Fellowship and IBM Faculty award.


Research Interests

Valerio Pruneri is leading the Optoelectronics group at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO). The group is working on micro- and nano-engineered integrated and fibre optic devices for telecommunication, sensing, aerospace, energy and quantum cryptography. In particular the main driving is to carry out research which bridges the academic and the industrial worlds, by developing fundamental ideas which will have an impact on commercial products.
