Born in Figueres (l'Alt Empordà) in the Summer of 1965. After obtaining my doctoral degree in Romance Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I was postdoctoral fellow at Bell Laboratories (Murray Hill, New Jersey), where I continued working on different aspects of the prosodic phonology of Romance languages. Currently I am the coordinator of the "Grup d'Estudis de Prosòdia" at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The goal of my research is to understand the meaning of prosodic and gestural patterns in language, as well as their interactions with other modules of grammar and linguistic knowledge. I am also interested in how babies acquire melody and gesture together with grammar, and how these components integrate in the process of language acquisition. In order to investigate these aspects of language, we use the general methods used for behavioural analysis, as well as brain imaging techniques in collaboration with colleagues from other labs.

My main research interests focus on the description of how melody and gesture work in language and how they interact with other types of linguistic knowledge, as well as how babies use melody and gesture in early stages of acquisition.
