My research interests lie in contemporary moral and political philosophy and concern primarily egalitarianism, responsibility, family justice, the ethics of markets, and well-being. My work in the past has focused on providing a critical examination of defences of the free market. My attention has then turned to the formulation of a cogent egalitarian theory and currently I am working on two issues. The first is an analysis of the role of responsibility in egalitarianism. Egalitarians allow for inequalities which individuals are responsible for. So far they have focused on the question of what makes individuals responsible, but have not given enough attention to the question of what responsible individuals are responsible for. My aim is to show how focusing on the latter question sheds light on the debate about equality and responsibility. My second project is on family justice. I ask what egalitarians should think about what parents owe to children and what non-parents owe to parents.
