Research Interest
My main interest lies in developing an adequate theory of linguistic knowledge that illuminates our understanding of the human mind/brain, and ultimately biology. I investigate (i) principles that appear to condition the way words are put together to form sentences in all languages ("syntactic universals") and (ii) points of variation among languages of the world ("parameters"). I am interested in developing a formally rigorous and explicit theory of our faculty of language that draws on and at the same time informs other cognitive functions and (theoretical) biology in general. I am also interested in language development and language change, and how these domains relate to questions of evolution.
