I obtained my PhD in Geography and History in 1995 at the University of Barcelona, with a research work about proto-historic societies in Catalonia through the analysis of their domestic architecture.
From 1996 to 1998 I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (Unité Mixte de Recherche 5140 - Lattes, Languedoc, France). From 1999 to 2003, I worked at the University of Barcelona as a post-doctoral researcher.
In 2004, I took a position at the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC) to start a research programme about the proto-historic societies and to create a research group specialized in this period.
I am an ICREA researcher at the ICAC since 2006, where my research is done in collaboration with researchers of the University of Barcelona, the University of Montpellier, the CNRS (both in France), and the Institut National du Patrimoine (Tunisia).

Research Interest

The general goal of my research is to study the organization and social evolution of the societies of the first millennium BC in the western Mediterranean region. More particularly, I have chosen the study of building technologies and the use of space. My current research focus in three main subjects:
- The study of the domestic architecture, social use of space and hierarchy in proto-historic settlements of Catalonia and Southern France.
- The analysis of mortuary practices and use of funerary space in the proto-historic burial sites of southern Catalonia.
- The research on the social evolution of proto-historic societies of northern Africa.
