Research Interest

In more detail the research interest in the past 5 years:

1. Developing scalable algorithms for advanced architectures with 1000’s of processors and increase the computational scales from micro (atomic) to macro (global problem) level (these also involve work with Oak Ridge National Lab, Daresbury Laboratory). In particular, scalable Monte Carlo algorithms are developed for Computational Biology, Environmental Models, Computational Finance and Linear Algebra. In addition the research focuses on scalable and fault-tolerant algorithms for the petascale architectures and the exascale architecture challenge.

2. Developing the fundamental mathematical methods needed to model complex physical, chemical and biological systems, spanning different length and time scales (these involve models for air pollution, computational biology, computational finance, security applications). In particular, Monte Carlo and various stochastic methods and deterministic methods are developed and designed which scale and allow to replace non-scaling parts of the models.

3. Collaborative, Grid and Cloud Computing, developing environments enabling scientists to efficiently implement the above mentioned models and run them on advanced computer architectures and developing tools to manage, analyse and visualize the data that results from computational experiments is of interest here. These involve gEclipse workflow environment, distributed environments for CAVEs, tools such as JMAST (Multicast Application Sharing Tool) and COCO (Collaborative Computing Platform)), VieGen (developed by Dr. A. Haffeggee) and currently gSLM e-Infrastructure FP7 EC project- to start Sept. 2010.

4. I work on Combining High Performance Computing together with 3D visualisation and VR to solve efficiently large scale problems in the security area (project with Oman), Computational Biology (molecular docking and drug design), environmental modelling (Air Pollution Modelling). This is a key research area and as featured on Supercomputing 2009 is fundamental for developing 3D internet.

5. My collaboration with IBM research is trough Computational Science Institute with IBM T.J. Watson, and my collaboration
