Born in 1962 in Barcelona I obtained my degree in Geography and History at the University of Barcelona in 1992. My thesis dissertation was carried out at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Rehovot) with Prof. Weiner, from 1996 to 1999 to work on hearths and ash layers from the Middle Palaeolithic Period of Tabun and Kebara caves (Mount Carmel). I defended my PhD at the University of Barcelona in 1999, supervised by Prof. Weiner (Weizmann Institute, Israel), Prof. Fullola (University of Barcelona, Spain) and Dr. Linda Cummings (PaleoResearch Lab. Golden, Colorado, USA).
Since 2005 I direct the Research Group for Palaeoecological and Geoarchaeological Studies (GEPEG) from the University of Barcelona.
Our research is focussed on three different fields:
a) Study of Hearths from Middle and Upper Palaeolithic Periods
b) Palaeolandscape and Palaeovegetation reconstruction during the Plio-pleistocene
c) Origins and development of Herding and Agricultural activities in the Levant.

I am the director of the Research Group for Palaeoecological and Geoarchaeological Studies of the University of Barcelona. Our main goal is the reconstruction of ancient vegetation and landscapes as well as on the use of vegetal resources by past populations, including dietary or other economic purposes (fires, basketry, etc.). Vegetal remains are identified through the study of phytoliths as well as mineralogical analyses of soils. Phytoliths are microscopic remains of pure silica formed in plants and adopting their cellular morphology. They are extremely resistant through time being commonly found in archaeological sediments when other plant remains have disappeared.
