Antonio Acín is a Telecommunication Engineer from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and has a degree in Physics from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). He got his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 2001 from the UB. After a post-doctoral stay in Geneva, in the group of Prof. Gisin (GAP-Optique), he joined the ICFO-Institut de Ciencies Fotòniques as a post-doc in 2003. He became Assistant Professor there in 2005 and Associate Professor in 2008. He got a Ramon y Cajal fellowship in 2004 and is an ICREA Junior fellow since 2007.
Since 2003 Antonio Acín leads the Quantum Information Theory group at ICFO. His research interests range from abstract concept to applied problems in this field, with an emphasis in Quantum Cryptography and Entanglement Theory. More recently, the group activities have been enlarged to other areas, such as Quantum Optics and Many-Body Physics.

Research Interest
Most of the research work by Antonio Acín is in Quantum Information Theory. This is a scientific area that studies how information is processed and transmitted when encoded on quantum particles. Using the quantum effects, new information tasks become possible: more powerful computers, unbreakable cryptography protocols and quantum teleportation. It is very inter-disciplinary area combining tools and concepts from Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics and Engineering.
