Patrick Gámez received his PhD in the field of enantioselective catalysis at the University of Lyon (France) and was awarded the French Chemical Society Prize for his PhD research. After a period of postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institüt für Kohlenforschung (Germany) and at the University of Strasbourg (France), he joined the group of Professor J. Reedijk at Leiden University (The Netherlands). Since October 1st 2010, he is ICREA Research Professor in bioinorganic chemistry at the Universitat de Barcelona.
He is the (co-)author of over 204 publications. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Spanish Bioinorganic Chemical Society (Asociación Española de Bioinorgánica - AEBIN), and the Catalan Association of Professors and Researchers in Advanced Chemistry.

Research Interests

My research investigations are divided in 4 topics
1) Bio-inorganic chemistry: Design of bio-inspired catalysts (Cu, Fe and W) for alcohol oxidation; Preparation of efficient copper-based DNA cleavers (anti-cancer drugs).
2) Post-synthetic modification of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs): Design and preparation of new functional MOFs for H2 and CO2 storage; Use of these two gases as reactants in catalytic reactions producing fine chemicals.
3) Supramolecular interactions: Investigation of the anion-pi interaction, a "new supramolecular bond"; Use of this type of non-covalent bonding contact to design anion receptors.
4) Spin-crossover (SCO) and magnetic materials: Development of Fe(II)- and Fe(III)-based coordination compounds with SCO properties with the ultimate objective to exploit them in memory devices (Nanotechnology); Design and preparation of novel polynuclear Cu, Fe, Mn and Ln coordination compounds with attractive magnetic properties.
